IRIDEX Cares
IRIDEX has a long-standing commitment to saving sight worldwide. We feel passionate about building key community partnerships with groups that share our mission to fight blindness, improve quality of care, and make a difference in patients’ lives.
Orbis International
Approximately 285 million people worldwide are visually impaired, but 80% are blinded by preventable and treatable conditions including cataract and glaucoma. Orbis International seeks to decrease those numbers by creating a fully equipped hospital onboard an airplane, allowing doctors trained in the latest ophthalmic techniques to bring their surgical knowledge and skills to doctors in developing countries though hands-on training and lectures. The Orbis Flying Eye Hospital is unlike any plane you’ve seen before. A state-of-the-art teaching facility complete with operating room, classroom and recovery room. To support Orbis’s commendable mission, IRIDEX donated and trained the permanent staff of the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital on using the IQ 532™ Laser System and an 810 nm, the OcuLight® SLx Laser System. Both the IRIDEX IQ 532 and the OcuLight SLx are multifunctional lasers that can be used to perform continuous-wave and MicroPulse procedures to treat retina disorders and glaucoma. We value and support Orbis’s unique focus on sustainable change within the global healthcare community, and we are excited our laser solutions are a part of their mission.
SEE International
SEE International is a nonprofit, humanitarian organization that provides medical, surgical, and educational services by volunteer ophthalmic surgeons with the primary objective of restoring sight to disadvantaged blind individuals worldwide. Since 1974, SEE has examined over 3.8 million men, women, and children, and performed more than 460,000 sight-restoring surgeries. SEE’s volunteer eye surgeon, Dr. Chak, traveled with a team of the organization’s volunteer medical professionals to St. Ann’s Bay, Jamaica. Dr. Chak’s trip to Jamaica was special in that it is one of SEE’s first forays into providing glaucoma surgery. Inspired by their mission, IRIDEX donated an OcuLight® SLx Laser System and G-Probe glaucoma devices. We are pleased to be part of a community that provides critical ophthalmic treatment to people with limited or no access to health care. Everyone at IRIDEX looks forward to being part of SEE endeavors in the future.
